Many consider the 15 years from the late seventies to the beginning of the nineties as the golden period of basketball across college campuses in Kerala. A number of talented players showed up during this period.

A former junior India player, Suresh first hogged headlines when he helped Kerala lift the junior national title in Jamshedpur in the early eighties.
