    My bettas

My modest little betta collection. Mostly from Robert Williams and Chong Voon Joe. I don't know the names of most of these varieties.

These are all pics of my black orchid I got from Robert. I think he looks like a dementor from Harry Potter.

I have another black orchid that I got from Joe but couldn't get a good pic of him. I also have a male called a "black knight" but his fins are lousy right now so I didn't take a pic of him.
    Thanks for looking.

The first female if a half moon. The next one is a a standard platinum, a crowntail female, and the last female is a standard fin dragon female.
Now for the males, the blue is a half moon, the red and blue is a scissor tail, next, a short fin dragon, and i am fairly certain the final one is a full moon. I hope that is some help.

Thanks, Robert! Any recommendations for pairing up any of these males and females (or things to avoid)? For instance, should I try to spawn the black orchid crowntail male with the white crowntail female? I'll try to do some research when I get a chance on betta genetics. I have no idea which traits are dominant or recessive or if there are certains pairings that cause issues.

truthfully Roy. no, i have to look these things up anytime i try to pair them up. betta genetics are REALLY complicated now with so so many varieties. it is my understanding though, that you have to breed the orchids to another color, because the double black is fatal if i remember correctly. i breed my orchids to a dark blue female crowntail, but i have t wonder now what the platinum female would produce with him.

I've been reading a little and saw that a black crossed with a black will produce infertile females but that's the only warning I have seen so far. It definitely gets complicated.
